UPDATE -- AHRQ Research Activities Online Newsletter

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality logo banner

AHRQ is working to improve and redesign its website. User feedback is a key element driving enhancements to AHRQ.gov and we are looking to you for help. One of our first tasks is to improve the organization of site information. This will set the foundation for many additional changes. You can help us by participating in a "card sort" exercise to help us better understand how information should be categorized and organized on AHRQ.gov. The card sort is very intuitive and should take only 15 or 20 minutes; no web design expertise is needed. Please consider helping us out by choosing the most appropriate link from the two below. The card sort will be available for the next two weeks and will close on April 6, 2012.

Matte article: What you should know about Salmonella if you keep backyard poultry

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - Your Online Source for Credible Health Information

Peep, chirp, quack!

What you should know about Salmonella if you keep backyard poultry

It’s not unusual to see soft and cute baby poultry put on display in agricultural feed stores, especially during the spring. But most people do not realize that live poultry (chicks, chickens, ducks, ducklings, geese, turkeys) can be a source of human Salmonella infections, especially for children. >>Learn more

CAHPS Clinician & Group Survey: Comparative Results

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has posted new comparative results for the CAHPS Clinician & Group (CG-CAHPS) Survey on the Online Reporting System maintained by the CAHPS Database:

https://www.cahps.ahrq.gov/cahpsidb/default.aspx

Comparative results are presented for both the 12-month Adult and Visit Adult versions of the CG-CAHPS Survey. Key features of the CAHPS Clinician & Group Online Reporting System include:

  • Top Box Scores display the percent of survey respondents who chose the most positive response option for composite measures, ratings, and individual question items. Top box scores are presented for several practice characteristics, such as region, physician specialty, practice ownership, and survey mode. Top box scores are also presented for the 90th, 75th, 50th, and 25th percentiles (i.e., the percentage of practice sites that scored at or below a particular top box score).
  • Frequencies (one-way or two-way) show the distribution of scores for all response options and allow users to run custom displays by respondent and practice site characteristics.
  • Barcharts display a graphical distribution of survey results that show the top, bottom, and middle response categories.
  • Percentiles display the percentage of practice sites that scored at or below a particular top box score.
  • Report Builder allows users to create custom downloadable reports.

The CAHPS Database is the national repository for data from selected CAHPS surveys. It is sponsored and funded by AHRQ and administered by Westat. For further information on the CAHPS Database, please visit our Web site at http://cahps.ahrq.gov/CAHPS-Database.aspx.

Please do not hesitate to contact the CAHPS Database by phone 888-808-7108 or email NCBD1@ahrq.gov if you have any questions or concerns.

NIH Research Matters for March 19, 2012 organ transplants without lifelong drugs, surprises in the gorilla genome, and nanocomplexes used to label cells for MRI tracking

The March 19, 2012, NIH Research Matters is now available. In this week's edition:

Photo of pill box.A new method allowed kidney recipients to eventually stop taking harsh immune-suppressing drugs even though they'd received mismatched organs. The accomplishment may lead to more options for organ transplants.

Photo of a gorilla Researchers have completed a draft sequence of the gorilla genome. Their analysis reveals that people may be more closely related to gorillas than we realized.

Photo of a person in an MRI machine.Nanocomplexes can be used to label transplanted cells so they can be tracked by MRI, according to a new study. In the future, the technique might be used to monitor whether transplanted immune or stem cells reach their targets.
