Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

CMS invites you to participate in a webinar to learn more about the Single, Streamlined Application for Health Insurance.

This webinar will walk through the recently released proposed Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Single, Streamlined Application for individuals.  The documents include draft paper applications and a list of all potential questions in the online application that individuals will complete to determine their eligibility to purchase coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace and for insurance affordability programs, including Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and advance payments of the premium tax credit (APTC).  The documents are available for public comment until February 28, 2013. To show how users may interact dynamically with the online application, CMS has posted two videos demonstrating how an application can be completed.

  • If you'd like to view the entire PRA package, visit go.cms.gov/PRA-Listing to view CMS-10440, CMS-10439, and CMS-10438.

Patient Safety Update: New AHRQ Resource Can Help Prevent Patient Falls in Hospitals

New AHRQ Resource Can Help Prevent Patient Falls in Hospitals

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has a new online toolkit, "Preventing Falls in Hospitals: A Toolkit for Improving Quality of Care," that focuses on reducing falls that occur during a patient's hospital stay. Nearly one million patients fall in U.S. hospitals each year. The Toolkit is organized under six major areas that address hospital readiness, program management, choosing fall prevention practices, implementation, measurement, and sustainability. Fall prevention programs require an interdisciplinary approach to care in order to manage a patient's underlying fall risk factors, such as problems with walking and transfers, medication side effects, confusion, and frequent toileting needs.  To find out more, visit www.ahrq.gov/research/ltc/fallpxtoolkit/index.html
